Psychotherapy and Counselling in Edinburgh

Dr Dhuana (Dee) Affleck, DCR.T, PG Dip, PG Dip (CAT), MSc, PhD

Welcome to my webpage, as you browse this website I hope you will be able to find out more about who I am, how I work, my clinical experience and my approach to working alongside others. I will tell you more about the additional roles I currently undertake, and of course provide you with an outline of my qualifications and professional registration. You may also be interested in browsing the section on publications and events.

I am a Counselling Psychologist as well as an ACAT registered Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer. I am also a registered Counsellor/Psychotherapist with BACP.  I have worked in the field of counselling/psychotherapy for 20 years. I am in supervision for my clinical work, and as part of my training have been in personal therapy.
I respect the uniqueness of each human being and offer short term or longer term psychotherapy and counselling according to the individual's needs and wishes.

The following lists my areas of clinical experience:

  • relationship problems
  • eating disorders
  • trauma and abuse
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • mood swings
  • spiritual and religious issues
  • sexuality and gender concerns
  • bereavement and loss
  • impact of physical illness on mental wellbeing

As a CAT therapist I am interested in how early experiences and (for some of us), trauma impact on the developing sense of self and influence our relationships with others, but also how we come to see ourselves in relation to these experiences.
